Yoga is an 8-limb process. Without realizing it, most people interested in learning about yoga are already practicing one or more aspects during their daily lives. People who practice generally have the same feelings about: non violence, truthfulness, non stealing, moderation, selfishness (1st limb) They also acknowledge the values of purity, contentment, the love of life, self study and the idea of a higher power (2nd limb).
When you begin to think about those types of things your body, mind and spirit can begin to feel heavy. Physically… pain, Mentally... anxiety, Spiritually.... bitter. The poses and postures of yoga help to lighten the load (3rd limb), then...in order to be able to do the physically demanding poses you begin to focus on your breathing (4th limb). Breathing is the key to relaxation, balance and equanimity. Limb 5 comes when the first 4 begin to work together. It is at that point that you are able to look at things from the inside, without distorting them. Things are as they are at this point. Once you realize that, you can concentrate with purpose (6th limb) and not feel scattered and distracted. After concentration comes meditation (7)...active rest! Finally, enlightenment...PEACE (8)!!
